Dr Sharmila Agarwal M.D. D.N.B. (Radiation Oncology), our Head and the Director Department of Radiation Oncology comes with thirty years of rich experience in the field of Radiation Oncology. After completing her graduation and post-graduation from one of the premier and Government Institute of India Osmania Medical College in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, she completed her senior residency from the premier cancer centre in India Tata memorial Hospital. She is working in Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre since 2002, as senior Consultant and since 2016 as Head and Director.

Dr Agarwal before joining Jaslok Hospital worked as Consultant Radiation Oncologist in Indian Cancer society’s Lady Ratan Tata Medical Research Centre.  She has served as an expert advisor and member technical committee for development of Oncology, in Cama and Albless Hospital which is a women and children speciality hospital of Government of Maharashtra, and Bethany Hospital, Thane.

Dr Agarwal has sub speciality interest in treatment of head and neck, breast, and gynaecological malignancies. Dr Agarwal has actively participated in various capacities in more than 300 meetings both at national and international level and authored chapters on role of radiotherapy in breast, cervical malignancies and laryngeal and hypopharyngeal malignancies. Principal investigator of trial “Prevalence of HPV infection in newly diagnosed cases of head and neck malignancies” conducted at Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Mumbai.

Dr Agarwal is also Teacher and Guide for post graduate students of Radiation Oncology examination being conducted by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.

Dr Agarwal has been voted by as Top Doctor in city of Mumbai in Radiation Oncology category for last several years.

  • Study of Outcomes in patients treated with Reirradiation for recurrent head and neck cancers.
  • Outcomes and toxicity of patients treated with IMRT and IGRT for head and neck cancers.
  • Prospective subjective evaluation of change in swallowing function and dietary pattern using performance status scale for head and neck cancers (PSS-HN) scale for patients of head and neck cancer undergoing curative intent Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy
  • Prospective, Subjective Assessment of distress level and change in distress level in patients of head-neck or breast cancers using NCCN Distress Thermometer and Problem List.
  • Prospective, subjective assessment of diurnal variation in xerostomia post radiotherapy for head and neck carcinoma patients.
  • Dosimetric evaluation of heart and its segments and coronaries comparing deep inspiration breath hold technique DIBH) to free breathing technique (FB) in patients of carcinoma left breast treated with external radiation.
