Introduction:

"I am a Full Time Consultant Cardiologist working at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre since the last 6 years. I have received special training in Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology as well as Cardiovascular Imaging.

I have a special interest in Cardiovascular Research and am currently involved in several research projects conducted by Jaslok Hospital.

I am also a Member of the Apex Research Committee and Scientific Committee of Jaslok Hospital. I was also a part of the Core committee for formulation of the Indian Guidelines on Hypertension III – 2013. I am the editor of several books for medical students and practitioners.

I have also written several review articles and case reports which have been published in reputed national and international journal. I believe in all round patient care and seeing each and every patient as an individual. I ensure that patients are given adequate time and attention so as to minimize hospital stay and optimize patient outcomes – in order to return each and every patient to optimal Physical and Mental Health"

  • RESEARCH PROJECTS

     

  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the FREEDOM COVID Anticoagulation Randomized controlled trial – which is a multinational randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anticoagulation with low dose enoxaparin, high dose enoxaparin and apixaban in COVID patients.  This trial aims to enrol 3600 patients from countries in North and South America and Asia. The principle investigator is Dr. Valentin Fuster from Mount Sinai Hosptial, New York, USA.
  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the ICC - NATIONAL HEART FAILURE REGISTRY which is a multicenter observational registry of patients with Acute Decompensated Heart Failure requiring admission to the hospital.  The study intends to enroll 10,000 patients and follow them up at 30 days and one year. The principle investigator is Dr. P.B. Jayagopal from Koimbatore, India.
  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the ASSURE DES (Perioperative Antiplatelet therapy in patients with drug-eluting Stent undergoing noncardiac SURgEry) trial, which is a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the perioperative use of antiplatelet drugs in patients who have received drug eluting stents in the past.  This trial is a 3 year trial which aims to enroll 2000 patients from 10 institutions in India and Korea. The principle investigator is Dr. S.J. Park from Asan Medical Centre, Seoul, South Korea.
  • Research Coordinator for the PROTECT Trial (Patient Related OuTcomes With Endevour Versus Cypher Stneting Trial) since 2011.  The PROTECT Trial is an ongoing randomized controlled phase 4 interventional trial with 8800 patients and approximately 200 hospitals, to evaluate whether the Endevour stent (Zotarolimus eluting stent) protects against late stent thrombosis resulting in less death and myocardial infarction at 5 years when compared with the Cypher stent (Sirolimus eluting stent).
  • Research Coordinator for the BioMatrix Registry since 2011.  The BioMatrix registry is a multicenter post marketing registry with an objective to evaluate the 2 year clinical safety and efficacy outcomes in patients treated with BioMatrix stent (Biolimus A9 drug eluting stent with a biodegradable coating).
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok CTO Registry, a registry of approximately 150 cases of Chronic Total Occlusions in coronary artery disease for which percutaneous coronary intervention was performed.  This is an ongoing registry of cases done from 2010 to 2016 with a clinical follow up of 1 year.
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok Rotablation Registry, which is an ongoing registry of rotablation done to calcified lesions in coronary arteries from 2010 to 2016 at Jaslok hospital.  It involves a clinical follow up of one year.
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok FFR/iFR Trial, which is a trial of FFR using adenosine versus nikorandil for hyperemia and iFR in intermediate coronary artery lesions conducted in 2017 at Jaslok hospital.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the FREEDOM COVID Anticoagulation Randomized controlled trial – which is a multinational randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anticoagulation with low dose enoxaparin, high dose enoxaparin and apixaban in COVID patients.  This trial aims to enrol 3600 patients from countries in North and South America and Asia. The principle investigator is Dr. Valentin Fuster from Mount Sinai Hosptial, New York, USA.
  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the ICC - NATIONAL HEART FAILURE REGISTRY which is a multicenter observational registry of patients with Acute Decompensated Heart Failure requiring admission to the hospital.  The study intends to enroll 10,000 patients and follow them up at 30 days and one year. The principle investigator is Dr. P.B. Jayagopal from Koimbatore, India.
  • Principle Investigator from Jaslok Hospital for the ASSURE DES (Perioperative Antiplatelet therapy in patients with drug-eluting Stent undergoing noncardiac SURgEry) trial, which is a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the perioperative use of antiplatelet drugs in patients who have received drug eluting stents in the past.  This trial is a 3 year trial which aims to enroll 2000 patients from 10 institutions in India and Korea. The principle investigator is Dr. S.J. Park from Asan Medical Centre, Seoul, South Korea.
  • Research Coordinator for the PROTECT Trial (Patient Related OuTcomes With Endevour Versus Cypher Stneting Trial) since 2011.  The PROTECT Trial is an ongoing randomized controlled phase 4 interventional trial with 8800 patients and approximately 200 hospitals, to evaluate whether the Endevour stent (Zotarolimus eluting stent) protects against late stent thrombosis resulting in less death and myocardial infarction at 5 years when compared with the Cypher stent (Sirolimus eluting stent).
  • Research Coordinator for the BioMatrix Registry since 2011.  The BioMatrix registry is a multicenter post marketing registry with an objective to evaluate the 2 year clinical safety and efficacy outcomes in patients treated with BioMatrix stent (Biolimus A9 drug eluting stent with a biodegradable coating).
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok CTO Registry, a registry of approximately 150 cases of Chronic Total Occlusions in coronary artery disease for which percutaneous coronary intervention was performed.  This is an ongoing registry of cases done from 2010 to 2016 with a clinical follow up of 1 year.
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok Rotablation Registry, which is an ongoing registry of rotablation done to calcified lesions in coronary arteries from 2010 to 2016 at Jaslok hospital.  It involves a clinical follow up of one year.
  • Co-investigator for the Jaslok FFR/iFR Trial, which is a trial of FFR using adenosine versus nikorandil for hyperemia and iFR in intermediate coronary artery lesions conducted in 2017 at Jaslok hospital.
