Introduction:

Dr. Vimal Patel was accepted to undergo his medical education at King Edward Memorial Teaching college and Hospital, which is one of the most prestigious medical schools in Mumbai and one of the leading medical colleges in India. He passed all the Examinations in the 1^st attempt and did his various Surgical posts at hospitals affiliated to his Alma Mater.

After acquiring the Master’s Degree in General Surgery he worked as a Clinical Assistant at the Cumballa Hill Hospital & Research Centre in the Department of Lithotripsy and Endourology (one of the 1^st ESWL centres in Mumbai). Here, he acquainted himself with the principles of ESWL and Endourology.

Thereafter, Dr. Vimal joined the Tata Memorial Hospital and Cancer Research Centre (the largest & most prestigious Oncology Hospital in the country) as a supervised postgraduate trainee in the Department of Genito-Urinary Oncology where he assisted in many major and minor surgical operations. Following this, he got appointed as Registrar and thereafter Senior Registrar in the Department of Urology at the Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre. He worked in the Department until July 1994 and got acquainted with the techniques of Transurethral Surgery, Ureterorenoscopy and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy besides routine open urological surgery and ESWL. He assisted and performed under guidance, Live Related Renal Transplants and Live Donor Nephrectomies.

This is in addition to surgery for access to haemodialysis, he assisted in working up and looking after patients in the discipline of Andrology (Impotency and Male Infertility).

In August 1994, Dr. Vimal joined the Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation at the Hammersmith Hospital in London to gain further experience in all procedures under the guidance of Mr. Gordon Williams - Head of Dept. of Urology & Renal Transplantation. Whilst there, he also worked with Mr. Eamonn Kiely who is renowned for his work in Paediatric Urology.

Currently, he is attached as a Consultant Urologist to the Bhatia, Breach Candy & Jaslok Hospitals.
