Introduction:

Dr. Maheboob M. Basade is a professor of Medical Oncology at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. He is executive body member of Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology. He joined Jaslok Hospital in the year 1997 and established the best stem cell transplantation department in the hospital.

Today, he is considered as one of the top oncologists in Mumbai. Apart from clinical work, he is also associated with many research projects dealing with clinical trials of new drugs, phase II / III clinical studies in cancer research as Principal Investigator.Presently, I am doing Ph.D. in Pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer. He is a recognized teacher for DNB Medical Oncology.

  • Awarded with International Scientist’s Visiting Fellowship in Hematology / Oncology. Worked with Dr. A. T. Look in Dept. of Experimental Oncology on oncogene MYCN detection by fluorescence in situ hybridization ( FISH ). Learned DNA extraction, non-isotopic labeling of MYCN DNA probe and also analysis of DNA ploidy by flowcytometry
  • Fellowship awarded by Javeri Foundation at The New York Hospital. Learnt the state-of-the art in peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and autologous bone marrow transplantation and cryopreservation, purging with Dr. Subhash C. Gulati
  • I was visiting Fellow for a period at the Europe’s largest bone marrow transplantation centre. I was able to learn matched- unrelated, allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplantation in multiple myeloma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia

  • Performed India’s first unrelated umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation in Thalassemia Major
  • Conducted Asia’s first case of unrelated cord blood stem cell transplantation in Krabbe’s disease
  • Performed India’s first one marrow stem cell transplantation in sickle cell disease
