The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai, plays a critical role in the delivery of high-quality patient care. The department is staffed by experienced and highly qualified medical laboratory scientists, technicians, and support staff who work tirelessly to provide accurate and timely laboratory testing services to support clinical decision-making. The department aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. 

The department provides diagnostic services in a wide variety of areas, with the most modern technologies available and highly trained specialists and subspecialists who are recognised nationally and internationally for their expertise.

In addition to providing routine laboratory testing services, the department also offers a number of specialised services, including molecular diagnostic testing, histopathology, and cytology. It is committed to staying at the forefront of new and emerging laboratory testing technologies and techniques and regularly invests in the latest equipment and training for the staff.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine is the pioneer for various state-of-the-art technology initiatives in the country. It is dedicated to understanding the basis of disease, teaching knowledge to others and applying its understanding to improve medical diagnosis and treatment of patients. 

The department has one of the most modernised and well-equipped laboratories in the country. The laboratories along with Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre are even accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare (NABH). 

Apart from clinical services, the department is also heavily involved in education and research forefront. The doctors and senior technicians at the department regularly participate in clinic-pathological and other clinical meetings with different specialities.

The department also undertakes teaching and training of laboratory technicians, MSc interns, students of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) and students enrolled in MSc and PhD programs. It also collaborates for various programs with other esteemed institutes. 

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre is never closed and works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, always welcoming patients and samples.

Division of Immunology & RIA

The Immunology Division at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre began in 1976. It is renowned for its work in transplant immunology, which includes tests such as CDC crossmatch, PRA, DSA and HLA typing (performed on the Luminex instrument). It is one of the 1st departments to perform cadaver cross-matches and has been doing so for the past 40 years. The department also performed tissue cross-matching and HLA typing for other centres in the country. HLA typing has been carried out on patients undergoing bone marrow transplants, for several research projects and in patients with HLA-associated diseases, such as ankylosing spondylitis, where the association is with HLA-B27.  

In addition, the department is also known for its work on autoimmune diseases with tests such as ANA, ASMA, LKM-1, NMO-MOG, Autoimmune encephalitis, ENA panel etc., using immunofluorescence and ELISA techniques
