Introduction:

Dr. Abhishek Mangeshikar is an expert excision surgeon who also advocates and spreads awareness of correct information of endometriosis. He is the founder and director of the Indian Centre for Endometriosis (ICE), which is a knowledge bank about endometriosis: correcting myths with endometriosis facts, discussing treatment options/procedures, and providing ample research data and key developments in the field of endometriosis in India and worldwide.

Dr. Abhishek trained extensively in laparoscopy in one of the most advanced centers for Gynecologic Endoscopy. He then worked in private practice for a year alongside his father, Dr. Prashant Mangeshikar, after which he underwent a two-year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecology from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. He’s performed almost 2000 surgeries, and has been running his multidisciplinary endometriosis practice for over 7 years. His special interests involve bowel endometriosis, imaging (working with Indo-German scientists to train AI to read imaging) and neuropelveology related to endometriosis.

In addition to being an excision surgeon, he also teaches laparoscopic gynecology, and has held various esteemed positions on different gynecological boards. 

Dr. Abhishek firmly believes that it is important that Indian people are aware of endometriosis and its symptoms. Lack of awareness, prompt diagnosis, and incorrect method of treatment are the key challenges in India. Through ICE, Dr. Abhishek aims to not only spread knowledge about the disease but also to bring the relevant communities and stakeholders together to create a revolution in the field of endometriosis, for a quick diagnosis and expert treatment for the disease.
